Weights are only the start
The Qwen3 release lists open-weight models under Apache 2.0. Check the exact model and accompanying components you select. Downloadable weights do not by themselves provide a reliable, monitored and secured service.
Budget for operation
Include hardware or cloud capacity, engineering time and incident response. Measure concurrency and first-response latency under load. A single-user demo and download size do not establish production capacity; memory and context requirements matter.
Decide on operational fit
Self-hosting deserves evaluation when control requirements are clear and the team can operate it. Compare total cost and quality with a managed service, and define upgrade, rollback and incident ownership before launch.
